# Magic layer's operations

Magic layers are very similar to regular layers in terms of what we can do with them statically. Things like opacity, naming, blend mode, masking, fx, etc. are exactly the same as a regular layer.

The thing that makes magic layers special is their ability to hold magics, which then can generate animations automatically.

{% hint style="info" %}
Because magic layers animate the content of the layer automatically, the cels of magic layers are always linked.

When editing the content, only the first frame shows the original content. When we draw on other frames, the content will appear as if the drawing input is not working properly (distorted or offset to another location)
{% endhint %}

The magic types of magic layers are:

#### Parallax

As the name suggests, parallax magic will create a parallax scrolling effect for the content. Content is looped around the canvas.

We can customize the offset pixels for each animation frame for both axes.

#### Skewing

<figure><img src="https://1813203282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FOddm4yDredA8gF0g7cDm%2Fuploads%2FrUal2XukSGs8bWa5Xscu%2FSkewing%20magic.png?alt=media&amp;token=631e0316-0038-4918-8be7-43eca34d3683" alt="" width="307"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This will animate the content in a sine line.&#x20;

We can customize the axis, step (how many pixels it will shift each frame), size (the thickness of each column), and frame count.&#x20;

The total shifted pixel count equals step x frame count.

{% hint style="info" %}
For skewing magic, even the content on the first frame is not the original one. If we want to edit the content properly, we need to disable this magic first.
{% endhint %}

#### Tween

<figure><img src="https://1813203282-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FOddm4yDredA8gF0g7cDm%2Fuploads%2FzodwZsl3mqLPv3Wh9Ng5%2FTween%20magic.png?alt=media&amp;token=4771b489-68d4-401d-8876-f7875af82fe8" alt="" width="307"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This magic will interpolate the values of the content and animate those properties.

We can tween with various time curves:

* Color values
* Displacement
* Scale
* Rotation

#### Wave

This magic simulates the water waves (ripples).
